Best Australian Playgrounds - Clifton Gardens Reserve Playground, NSW

Written by Seana Smith

Clifton Gardens Reserve is a pleasure ground for families, with heaps to do for young and old, and that's the adults as well as the children!  The very large and very groovy playground at the eastern end of the Reserve is the icing on the cake.

This playground would be an excellent one in any location at all. It has lots of different equipment, soft sand to fall on, terrific shade, a kiosk/cafe nearby and truly fabulous Harbour views.  There is a Liberty swing as well - it's great to see that Mosman Council are catering for all abilities.

For older children there is a challenging rope climbing frame, some very high tech seesaws, great swings and much more.  The littler children have their own equipment in a fenced off area; slides, playhouse and more.  It is handy to have this fenced off area as parents of lively toddlers can relax for a moment in there.  The beach and boardwalk are a great temptation for little runaways so to have one safe, fenced off area in this playground is a blessing for parents of younger children.

More pluses?  The playground is far away from the carpark and so very safe from cars.  There are toilets and change rooms just across the reserve. The sheltered waters of the bay are safe for swimming and there's a netted area close by.  The beach is generally clean and safe.  For older children and young at heart adults, leaping into the sea from the boardwalk is thrilling fun.

The one downside? The large carpark is expensive when you want to stay all day, and we do want to.  But overall, this is a fantastic summertime playground, one of Sydney's best-kept secrets.
